Guhil Dynasty of Mewar MCQs | Ancient History of Rajasthan

Guhil Dynasty of Mewar MCQs | Ancient History of Rajasthan: The kingdom of Mewar includes present day districts of Chittorgarh, Rajsamand, Udaipur, Dungarpur, and Banswara. The region was originally called Medhpaat and Lord Shiva (Ekling Nath) is called Medhpateshwar (Lord of Medhpaat). Over time, the name Medhpath became Mewar. The creators of Mewar’s ruling dynasty in Rajputana came originally from the Guhilot clan. Foundation stories claim this clan originated in Kashmir and migrated to Gujarat in the sixth century. In the seventh century they migrated again, to the plains of Mewar, in the area around Magda, which was named after one of the earliest clan leaders.

The Sisodia clan of Mewar, popularly known as the “House of Mewar,” was one of the many Rajput clans who ruled the Kingdom of Mewar, afterwards known as the Udaipur State during the British Raj. They belonged to the Rajput clan and claimed to be from the Suryavanshi lineage. After defeating the Tughlaq sultans of Delhi, Hammir Singh, a descendant of this Guhila branch dynasty, restored the Kingdom of Mewar.

According to the 15th century text Eklinga-Mahatmaya, the family split into two branches during the reign of Ranasimha alias Karna: the Rawal (senior) branch of Chittor, and the Rana (junior) branch of Sisodia. The later Sisodia Rajput dynasty of Sisodia thus descended from the Guhilas of Mewar.

Ancient History of Rajasthan: The history of human settlement in the West Indian state of Rajasthan dates back to about 5,000 years ago. Around 1400 BC, the Matsya tribe occupied the region.
