First Woman Director General of Indian Council of Forestry Research Education (ICFRE)

In a significant milestone, Kanchan Devi, a 1991-batch Indian Forest Service Officer from the Madhya Pradesh cadre, has been appointed as the Director General (DG) of the Indian Council of Forestry Research Education (ICFRE). This marks a historic moment as Kanchan becomes the first woman officer to hold this prestigious position in the premier council under the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change.

Key Initiatives and Impact

Her contributions extend to the establishment of the Centre of Excellence on Sustainable Land Management (CoE-SLM) and the implementation of the World Bank-funded Ecosystem Services Improvement Project (ESIP) at ICFRE. She has been instrumental in recruiting and promoting scientists and technical officers within the council.
