After the provincial election in 1920, the government of this province was once again shifted from Allahabad to Lucknow. In 1921, the legislative council was established in Lucknow itself and by 1935 after the transfer of the provincial secretariat from Allahabad to Lucknow was completed, Lucknow was declared the capital of the province. In 1937 the name of the province was changed to ‘United Provinces.’
