- Why in News? : Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Dr. Syama Prasad Mookherjee on his 125th birth anniversary on July 6,2025. The Government of India is organizing a two-year commemoration in his honor.
- Introduction : He was an Indian politician , academic, and barrister. He served as the first Minister of Industry and Supply in the first Nehru government cabinet.
- Born : July 1901, Kolkata, West Bengal.
- Major Contribution : He founded the Bharatiya Jan Sangh on 21 October, 1951, which later evolved into the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
- He opposed the special status given to Jammu and Kashmir. He strongly opposed Article 370. He coined the slogan ‘One Constitution, One Flag, One Leader’.
